Dear TapSwap Community,Investing serves a range of purposes, primarily focused on securing profitable returns for a better future. While the reasons behind investing are evident, the methods and strategies employed have become a subject of vigorous debate among economists, financial advisors, and online experts. Here is one of our favorites that you can employee on the TapSwap platform:Dollar cost averaging, or "DCA" for short, is a simple investment strategy in which an investor splits the total amount to be invested in a given asset across regular periodic purchases.The regular purchases occur regardless of price, volatility, or economic conditions. The goal is to remove the complexities of market timing from the process, allowing an investor to build their desired position without concern for external factors.Its simplicity removes behavioral and psychological biases from the equation.In our case our functional currency is Kenya Shillings (KES) so we will look at an example using KES. You split KES 80,000 into 8 pieces, KES 10,000 each. You could have done any number of pieces, but 8 seemed an optimal choice. Perhaps you expected more funds in month 6 to 8 and would add-on for another 8-month cycle.You decide on a monthly DCA, so every 1st of the month, you buy KES 10,000 of Bitcoin on TapSwap, regardless of price. After 8 months, you have built your desired KES 80,000 cost basis position.Alternatively, you may not have a specific position size in mind. You know you believe in the long-term narrative for Bitcoin, but you aren't sure about near-term movements.You are confident it's going (much) higher eventually, but with likely volatile swings between now and then.In this scenario, you may go with a "perpetual DCA" plan. Just buy a set amount every day, week, or month, with no position size in mind.This is an excellent approach for high-conviction, long-term investments.For the vast majority of investors, dollar-cost averaging should form the foundation of their long-term wealth creation strategy and this why we are integrating automated buying options for our upcoming Advanced platform.It's simple.
